LGBTism is a social movement that seeks to recognize non-heterosexuality (not being straight/exclusively attracted to the opposite sex) and non-cisgenderism (sex assigned at birth and gender identity not matching) as natural and non-negative human phenomena, and to better the lives of LGBTQ+ people across the world, gaining them dignity, autonomy, and freedom of self-expression.
LGBTism may focus on equal rights, such as same-sex marriage, and/or focus on liberation from cisheteronormativity, as in the original gay liberation movement. Earlier movements focused on self-help and self-acceptance. Although there is not a primary or an overarching central organization that represents all LGBTQ+ people and their interests, numerous organizations are active worldwide.
